Selinas Coffee Bar and Eatery

The Moya Family stopped by Selinas this Sunday for the webcast brunch and enjoyed a great breakfast with everyone. Selinas is more of a social center and breakfast was secondary to introducing ourselves to the RealNegril.com broadcast crew in Rob and Karla. We’re still in US time and the Jamaican time thing is catching up too us. We arrived at 10am (the advertised start time of the webcast) and we’re greeted as the first guests of the day. Our kids are up and at it early still because of their school schedules back home so by 10 AM they were ripping and running around Selinas and having a good time of it playing with the chickens, cats and puppies running around the place.

A big part of our love for Jamaica is the natural beauty that surrounds you everywhere you go and Selinas is no different. Enjoy wild bromeliads and tropical flora while dining on a home made breakfast you’re sure to love. The variety of colors and natural wildlife in Jamaica make for some great sight seeing but it’s really nice to see the same beauty in establishments like this one. I simply love the use of colors all over the island and Selinas is no exception. The variety of hues and natural coloring makes a pleasant morning all by itself. The people and food make it even better.

Of course we came to eat and catch some of the webcast. Sadly our friend “The Jamaican Cowboy” won’t be performing any longer but the show must go on and the webcast has been taken over by a new musical talent. The Jamaican Cowboy tribute site is up and running although it’s still in it’s infancy. The site will be used as a remembrance for friends and family as well as to coordinate relief efforts for those effected by his passing. His passing won’t soon be forgotten and reminders of his presence are all over.

Of course brunch at Selinas would not be the same if it were not for the awesome food. Big Roys Banana Pancakes are a meal fit for a king and the service and atmosphere match. We were feeling kinda hungry so we ordered big and ate fast. I started scarfing down my food without some proper pictures first but as you can see from the end results, breakfast at Selinas Coffee on a Sunday is delicious. We’ve been in Jamaica since July 5th and although we’ve had a few cups of coffee nothing compares to the fresh roasted taste of a cup of Selinas Blue Mountain Coffee. Our hotel room has instant hot water but not a coffee pot. I’ve been drinking Instant Jamaican Coffee from High Mountain since we arrived and it’s been acceptable since it is Jamaican but nothing perks you up like a shot of fresh brewed Blue Mountain Jamaican Coffee. I am of Cuban descent and was born in South Florida. I’ve been drinking Cuban coffee since I was age 10 or so and I consider myself a coffee lover. I’ve had coffees from all over and Jamaican coffee really is the best flavored coffee I’ve had. You have to prepare it correctly in order for me to truly enjoy it but I’ll drink it all. Some here in Jamaica prefer to use sweet milk for creamer but I prefer to use cane sugar and regular cows milk in my coffee. Back home I normally take non dairy creamers but I prefer the real milk for my Jamaican coffee.

The portions are grand but we fought hard and won. Clearing a a plate of Big Roys pancakes takes some time and effort but it can be done by one person. Odds are you’ll sleep the rest of the day but you can eat them all. We decided to cut our visit short after the kids ate and got antsy for some beach time. The musical entertainment was on Jamaican time and was still pulling stuff from the car at 11:30am. It was starting to get hot and the beach was looking very inviting so we packed up and hauled butt before the show actually started. It was good to meet the RealNegril crew and we’ll be following them to a few other shows over the next week or two for more coverage. Chatting online with new friends like Marko and Sweetness is making our trip all the better and meeting with boardies from places like Negril.com and Trip Advisor at the webcasts is super cool.
